Meet the Team

MOSTAFA RACHWANI —Editor / Parramatta Correspondent
Mostafa Rachwani is an ambitious fool. Studying a double degree in Law and Communications, with plans to one day become a journalist, Mostafa believes firmly in attempting to change the world. Whether with his words, or his writing, he feels there is too much wrong in the world to sit idly by. But the problem is he is obsessed with music and movies. Whether this obsession is hampering or not, it helps him with his position at Degree. But sometimes it takes the combination of the two, arts and a social conscience to truly change the world. That’s what Mostafa is hoping for anyway.

DRAGANA LUCIC-JOZAK —Sub-Editor / Designer
Dragana tends to be a master of all trades when it comes to her endeavours. Majoring in Journalism, she is continuously intrigued by most things in the world and it is this curiosity which keeps her sane throughout her 3rd and final year. But she isn’t just your average Journalism student, she loves design and photography too. Her expertise helps run the Degree site.

PHILIP KHOURY —Creative Director
Phil is finishing a Bachelor of Design (Visual Communications) making him just the right person to take the words of our illustrious contributors and dress them in fancy clothes so that you might (hopefully) want to read them. He loves magazines (hard copy and soft), the tactility of print, art, design and the very human ability to communicate beautifully. He hopes you love DEGREE.www.itsacuri.com

GELINE GARCIA —Communications Officer
Geline is doing a Bachelor of Communication, majoring is Journalism and taking electives in Video editing. This year being her final year, she hopes to make the most of it!

JOSH CROWLEY —Co-founder
Josh and his friend and co conspirator Ash Dollin came up with the idea for a student-run news source. Ash was in charge of the words, Josh the design. And so began DEGREE. Josh, a UWS graduate still sticks around and guides us, passing on his wisdom and experience… helping us out when technology gets the better of us. www.joshuacrowley.com

REBECCA CASSEL —Film Critic
This is Bec. She enjoys watching messed up, bizarre movies while enjoying a bottle of red, then attempting to write some kind of coherent review to tell you all how wonderful/terrible it is. In her spare time she studies Communications, majoring in Media Arts, and looks up funny pictures of puppies on the interweb. Bec hopes to bring you the latest in films from around the globe in 2011, encouraging procrastination for students everywhere.

BRITTANY SEARLE —Lifestyle / Opinions Writer
Brittany is 22, in her third year at Uni and majoring in Journalism. She likes to call herself a writer so is always looking for that perfect story and someone willing to tell it. As DEGREE’s resident lifestyle/opinions writer she loves to get people thinking, laughing and even arguing but most importantly, feeling inspired.

SELMA HUSOVIC—Reviewer
When she’s not huddled in a corner sipping exotic tea and writing for DEGREE, Selma enjoys reading, watching movies and living in the 1950s. When she finishes her Communication degree she hopes to write articles with substance for a magazine in a big building or cute zines for a stall on the street.

JESSIE CUNNIFFE —Social Media Officer / Writer
Jessie Cunniffe is currently a second year student studying a Bachelor of Music at UWS. When she’s not playing, listening to or reviewing music she is constantly on the lookout for exciting happenings on campus to flood the Degree Twitter and Facebook accounts with. On the occasion that she writes something longer than a status, she prefers to write with her tongue firmly in her cheek and enjoys poking fun at university life for the entertainment of all.

LAURA RANOLA —Writer
Laura Ranola, currently a third-year student at UWS and studying a Bachelor of Communications at Penrith, she is an integral part of the DEGREE Street Team. With a passion for getting out there and talking to people, she also signs off at the end of the day with writing pieces that accompany our DEGREE TV videos.

DANIEL PARREY —Tech/Gaming Writer
A member of Degree’s street team Daniel majors in Media Arts Production. He approaches things with a care-free attitude. Oh, and need a cameraman at your wedding? Daniel might be your man… He’s skilled with a video recorder. Long live DEGREE TV

PHILLIP VALENTINE —He Says Columnist
Phillip, better known as PJ or Peej is a Communications student at UWS majoring in Journalism. PJ is the He Says columnist at Degree. Living on the Northern beaches he commits himself to the trek out to Uni each week. Two years down and two to go. Say hi if you see him around campus!

ROXANNE GROEBEL —She Says Columnist
A staunch neo-feminist Roxanne can sometimes be a little brash but she means well. A lady of strong opinions and a penchant for good poetry, she is in her last year of a Communications degree, majoring in Journalism. She hopes to eventually work for a magazine that gives her copious amounts of free stuff.
